Sexy Swing App – Intro

April 29, 2008

There’s nothing like a sexy native looking Mac UI. I wanted to demonstrate that native looking apps can be created in Swing. So I implemented the table portion of iTunes as well as a unified toolbar area and bottom bar. Over the next four posts, I’ll go over how you can create an iTunes style table using Swing, broken down into these sections:

  1. The Unified toolbar, segmented buttons, and button group labels
  2. Custom TableCellRenderers for your JTable’s JTableHeader
  3. A rating TableCellRenderer complete with subtle selection rendering details
  4. The bottom bar and labels on it
